We started demolition Saturday. We needed to remove a large section of wall between the kitchen and living room, install a beam so the roof didn't sag there where the wall came down. We also needed to frame up the useless hallway behind the kitchen that led to the bedrooms. Now all traffic will go through our enlarged kitchen, then down the hall to the bedrooms.
The kitchen is right in the middle of the house so even if you get all cozy in a finished part of the house, if you want to go anywhere else you have to go through the yucky kitchen. So, in the next few days all the yuck will be gone! Tomorrow we start tiling the floor there, but here are some pics of what we've done from Saturday until Tuesday.
On one side of the kitchen there was this wall of pantry type cabinets with a microwave and the fridge. We are knocking ALL of it down, pushing it back a few feet and putting the stove in the middle and countertops/cabinets there instead.

Another view: (standing in living room)

POOF..gone! (if ONLY it were that easy!)

We removed the sheetrock on the otherside (which was actually a useless hallway), and suddenly I can see through the house. lol

Now back from the original view (standing in kitchen) when it was on the right...now it's gone and you can see the wall is pushed way back. We spent today sheetrocking the backside of the wall and rebuilding that hallway into a walk-in pantry.

Here's Charlie helping her daddy rewire the wall for electricity.

Ok so that was the right side of the kitchen. Now for the left: (isn't it PURTY? **gag**)

Here we go! Demolition! Hey...why don't I ever get to destroy anything?? (**pout**)

The back of that wall before:

Getting torn down......

Ok so after we made a huge mess..........suddenly......an open floor plan!

From the living room:

See that long beam that runs along the ceiling across the length of the kitchen? That was a major project as well. It was SO heavy. Charles asked his friend to come help and the three of us got it up there and in place. What a job! Since he tore down all the supporting wall there and it is a load bearing wall, he had to get a beam up for support.
So, anyway, today we did a bunch of sheetrock and taping/mudding but it will be a couple of days before I can post those pics.
More later................
Not letting the grass grow under our feet!
