So we decided to give in get one of those pricey wall texture sprayers that you load wet compound into then spray at the ceiling to leave a nice texture. But, while I was at Home Depot getting it, Charles called and said he'd been doing some research online and thought we should try some of those ideas first since they were so much cheaper. So, not only did I get that texturizing machine thingy ($135.00, machine AND bags of mix), but I also got some drywall compound and extra big rollers ($15.00). We decided we'd try the cheap option first and if it didn't work, we'd open up the sprayer. So, we started mixing dry wall compound with water and dipping and rolling the mud over and over throughout the house on all parts of the ceiling...all stinkin' day long. MAN did our shoulders and necks ACHE! It was looking good, and after it dried, Charles went and used a scrapper to scrape the points off of the texture so it was a flatter design. And, guess what? The roof looks awesome!! We had our painter friend over to put some paint on it and as it dries, I'm liking it even more. NO MORE NASTY flaws! Even our friend was impressed b/c when he heard what we'd done w/ the drywall mud, he thought we'd made a huge mistake. It's just a 'creative' way to add texture and not widely done, so we understand.
It's dark now but I'll get a picture in the sunlight tomorrow. I'm disappointed to have spent so much time and energy on the ceilings only to have it look so BAD after paint...then this SIMPLE solution comes along and we realize we should have done it this way in the beginning. Hey...it's a steep learning curve. The next ceiling I repair I'll be sure to remember this. NOT THAT I'M REMODELING ANY MORE HOUSES!!! (LOL...sort of).
Ok, so one major job, under our belt and DONE... Ceiling repaired and painted!
Not letting the grass grow under our feet!
