This weekends project...the fireplace.

Trying to get stuff in the living room first. The fireplace was this weekend. We hated how it originally looked so we removed all of the old brick. Charles wanted to raise it up off the floor some so it would allow for 12 inch tiles around it. We didn't want a mantel or anything. We have looked around and saw a fireplace with only tiles around it and we loved how it looked so we're going with that. We bought slate tiles this weekend. anyway, here is how it originally looked:



Then the sledgehammer came out:



And now,




He closed it in by building up the bottom some, putting 'wonder board' up, (is that like wonder bread??), mixed concrete and poured it in, smoothed it out, and now the fireplace opening is a bit smaller, a bit higher and ready to put the slate on!

Here I am helping to mix the cement, ug.......thought I was DONE w/ that job forever! Guess not....(**shaking my fist at the summer of 85 or 86?**)

I hope they look good w/ the wall color we picked out. I guess we'll find out! lol
